About the Artist

Personal Statement

It seems like everyone else I see does these things in the third person so I assume I should too.

Don't be confused this not the statement of Madonna’s adopted child David Banda or of the Dave Mathews Band. This Dave Band likes to create visual art. Currently, Dave Band has been focusing his artistic efforts on the medium of oil painting. Perhaps this is because he prefers to do things that will ruin his clothes. Most his work is based on ideas that come to mind. The general theme in Dave's work is to point out that our world is consistently more interesting than initially perceived. That while we take for granted many aspects of our surroundings our environment is actually astounding. Dave Band presents snapshots of our world with an emphasis of color, stylistic markings and distortion in an attempt to made viewers notice what is out there.

My Background

This one is in first person.

These days I’m a Bureaucrat by day and super hero at night. OK, while I might be attacked by dragons at times I do artwork rather than fight crime on my off time. Right now I live in Washington, D.C. and paint in Mount Pleasant Artists Studios. I have been doing artwork for quite some time. The mediums of my earliest work included crayon on bedroom wall and finger paint on kitchen floor. As time went on I continued to do art in high school including working in acrylic, pencil, charcoal, wire sculpture. Fear of being destitute kept me from committing to becoming an art major in college. However, I did sneak my way into taking additional art classes with some extremely talented folks during both undergrad and grad school. Although my time to be in school is over (drat) over the past year I have continued to develop though the class offerings of Alexandria’s Art League. Now that I have both a real job and some time I am trying to see what I do. Keep checking back here see where things go.
